Amazing Entry-level Opportunities
Report for America — in San Francisco!
The San Francisco Public Press is recruiting a Report for America corps member to join its newsroom in July and report on how "federal actions and City Hall responses reshape local democracy, public participation and community resilience.”
Candidates can be emerging journalists with 1–3 years of experience or experienced reporters with 8+ years of experience. Lila LaHood, a member of the Department of Journalism’s industry advisory committee, has a video about the program. Journalists are invited to apply to Report for America by Feb. 16. California Local News Fellowship application is open!
UC Berkeley's California Local News Fellowship offers paid two-year fellowships at local newsrooms throughout the state, and community college journalism students are strongly encouraged to apply. These full-time jobs allow early-career journalists to get their foot in the door.
An upcoming information session is scheduled for Friday, Feb. 20 at 3 p.m. Register here. The application closes on March 5. Fellowships begin in early September.

National Collegiate Journalism Conference In SF
The Department of Journalism will send a delegation of students and faculty to the National College Media Conference at San Francisco’s own Embarcadero Center in March. The conference, presented by the Associated Collegiate Press, Journalism Association of Community College and California Collegiate Media Association, brings together collegiate journalists and advisers from across the nation for knowledge sharing, networking and more.

Juan A. Gonzales Scholarship Fund
Forty-year Department of Journalism Chair Juan Gonzales is preparing a gift to all future students after he retires in June 2026. Gonzales is raising funds for a scholarship for journalism students and seeding it with his own money.
